KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) - The authorities placed an 8-year-old Klamath Falls girl in protective custody after it was discovered that she had been left alone in a car while her mother spent hours in a lounge.

The mother, 44-year-old Kimberly Charlene Harris, has been jailed on accusations of child neglect and reckless endangerment.

Klamath Falls police say Harris had been drinking to the point where she eventually got cut off. A lounge employee and another patron followed Harris to the parking lot where they managed to get the keys to her car.

That's when someone discovered the girl in the backseat, covered in a blanket. Police estimate she had been there for up to three hours Sunday night.
