Units from Vancouver Fire, American Medical and the Clark County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of an apparent murder by a mother of her 18-month-old son Friday afternoon.
Authorities say 31 year old Kelly Meining has been charged with Murder I in the stabbing death of her son Bryce Meining.
At approximately 5pm Friday dispatch received a telephone call from a male at 14002 NE 73rd Street. He was reporting that his wife had just stabbed their 1 1/2 year old infant son, and was requesting medical assistance.
Police, fire and ambulance crews responded to the scene. Deputies entered the residence first to make sure the scene was safe for emergency personnel to enter. Once the scene was secured fire rescue entered the scene and immediately began lifesaving efforts on the infant. The child was transported by ground ambulance to Southwest Washington Medical Center. One Vancouver Fire Medic and two fire EMT assisted AMR personnel as American Medical transported the child to the hospital
The father, mother and two other children of the couple were home at the time of the stabbing.
Despite efforts of the medical personnel the infant was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Detectives from the Clark County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Child Abuse Intervention Center were dispatched to the scene and will continue with the investigation.
The name of the suspect in this case is Kelly Meining. She was transported downtown to the Major Crimes unit and was interviewed by detectives from the Clark County Sheriff's Office. She has now been charged with Murder I.
The Medical Examiners office has picked up the infant. An autopsy will be completed in the near future.
The suspect will appear for arraignment on Monday the 22nd of May.
