- SHANIKO, Ore. - Oregon State Police say a car crash on Highway 97, south of Madras, has killed a 1-year-old boy and injured several others, two of them children.

It happened Tuesday night. Most of the occupants are from Hollywood, California.

Police say an SUV driven by 30-year-old Pedro Zendejas lost control and traveled onto the southbound gravel shoulder, rolling several times. He and the front seat passenger were uninjured.

Leonel Ortega, from Cheney, Washington, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

A five-month pregnant woman was ejected as was another woman from Cheney, Washington. Both are in critical condition.

A 2-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy were also ejected and are in stable condition.

An initial investigation indicates the baby was not in a child safety seat but was being held at the time of the crash.
