- EUGENE, Ore. - A Springfield man has been charged with
setting fire to 35 sport utility vehicles at a Eugene car
dealership in March 2001.
Authorities say 36-year-old Kevin Tubbs was charged yesterday
with one arson count for each of the vehicles he is accused of
torching at Joe Romania Chevrolet.
Tubbs is one of six people arrested this month in the most
extensive bust of suspected eco-saboteurs in U.S. history.
The Earth Liberation Front issued a note from the saboteurs in
2001. It said the SUV fire was a strike against capitalism and
air pollution.
Federal authorities told The Oregonian newspaper they would not
comment.
Last week, Tubbs was charged in the 1998 firebombing of a U.S.
Department of Agriculture research facility in Olympia, Washington.
