PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Portland police say a woman died and her 10-year-old daughter was injured when they were struck by a car while walking in North Portland late Wednesday afternoon.

Neither of the victims has been identified, nor has the 39-year-old woman who was driving the car.

Police say the crash occurred in a poorly lit area without sidewalks, and it does not appear that speed or impairment were factors.

The 42-year-old mother died at the scene and the child was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. She is expected to survive.

The investigation is continuing.
