PORTLAND, Ore. - Police believe a man opened fire outside a downtown Portland nightclub and a neighboring bar Saturday night, killing two women and wounding seven others.

The lone suspect then turned the gun on himself, causing critical injuries.

The shooting rampage occurred about 10:30 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of The Zone, an underage nightclub, and Kells Irish Restaurant and Pub near the intersection of Southwest 2nd Avenue and Southwest Pine Street, police said.

Police officials on Sunday said 16-year-old Ashley Lauren Wilks of the Portland area died at the scene. Another woman died after arriving at an area hospital, but she has not yet been identified.

Of the remaining seven shooting victims who received treatment at area hospitals, two were listed in critical condition, three were listed in stable condition and two had already been treated and released as of Sunday morning, police said.

They have not yet been identified.

Police recovered the suspect's gun at the scene.

Investigators do not believe this was a gang-related incident, but the motive for the shooting spree was unclear. There was no indication that the shooter was inside any of the clubs before he opened fire or that he knew any of the victims, police said.

"This incident is a tragedy for the victims and families involved and even veteran police officers are shocked at what has happened," a Portland police spokesperson said.

If you believe your relative might have been a shooting victim, police asked you to call Central Precinct at (503) 823-0097 for information. Anyone with information on the incident was asked to call detectives at (503) 823-0400.

Police expected to release more information at a 12:30 p.m. press conference.
