Lawmakers take aim at smokers... again
SALEM, Ore. - It seems Oregon state lawmakers can't keep smokers out of their sights.
First, a new smoking ban took effect, then the governor announced his plan to raise tobacco taxes and now state lawmakers may ban smoking in vehicles that carry children.
The plan would make it illegal to smoke in a car with anyone 16 or younger inside. If the proposal becomes law, smokers could be pulled over and fined $90 on their first offense and as much as $360 on their third.
Lawmakers are also considering legislation to ban cigarette machines and require landlords to instruct smokers where they can smoke.
What do you think about all the legislation being aimed at smokers?
