Prime suspect indicted in Stephanie Condon murder

PORTLAND, Ore. - The prime suspect in the 1998 murder of 14-year-old Stephanie Condon, whose remains were found just last month in southern Oregon, has been indicted on three counts of aggravated murder.

Dale Wayne Hill, 39, has long been a suspect in the case and is currently serving a 30-day sentence in a Nevada jail on an unrelated charge.  He was set to be released from jail on Wednesday but now Douglas County officials have placed a hold on him and will begin working on the extradition process to bring him back to Oregon.

Stephanie Condon disappeared in 1998 while babysitting her cousin's 2-year-old twins in Riddle, a small town about 180 miles south of Portland.

For years, the mystery of what happened to her went unsolved.  But last month, a man walking his dog on a logging road near the town of Glide, about 30 miles northeast of Riddle, discovered her remains.

Investigators say Hill is the last person known to have seen Condon alive and he had been identified from the beginning as a suspect.

A memorial for Stephanie Condon is scheduled to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
