SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Hundreds of anti-tax activists came to the Oregon Capitol Wednesday to protest what they called "government bailouts, deficits, and out of control spending."
Participants held signs, flags and at least one pitchfork as Republican legislative leaders encouraged them to make their voices heard. The rally was sponsored by a number of anti-tax groups and coincided with others held throughout the nation.
The crowd grew quickly and members sported tea bags on their lapels and hats. Some of the signs read: "No more taxes," and "No to European Socialism. Yes to American Constitution."
A small counterprotest with five members met on the other side of the Capitol. They said corporations should pay higher taxes.
