PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - An intense thunderstorm blew through Western Oregon on Thursday, bringing along rain, hail, lightning and strong winds that pounded the region.

The storm moved from the southern Willamette Valley toward the Portland area in the afternoon, flooding streets and knocking down trees and power lines. Tornado warnings were issued during the day and there were unconfirmed reports of funnel clouds in the mid-valley.

Portland General Electric said it had 35,000 customers without power, with the hardest hit areas being Salem, Silverton, Woodburn, West Linn and Oregon City.
