Snow showers move through but main roads remain clear
PORTLAND, Ore. - An early winter blast of light snow moved into the Northwest overnight Monday as temperatures dropped and higher elevations saw light accumulations of snow.

Snow fell at lower elevations but was not sticking to well-traveled roadways Monday morning.

However, the snow level is expected to remain low through the day on Monday.

Upper elevation roads such as Highway 26 through the West Hills could see some snow on the roadway, but accumulations are expected to remain light.

In locations east of Cascade Locks in the Columbia River Gorge and in higher elevations, snow stuck to some roads, creating hazards for commuters.

Oregon Department of Transportation crews were out in force with snowplows and other equipment, including a gravel/de-icing combination that has seen success in other areas of the state.

Snow showers are expected through Monday, but rising temperatures mean it probably will not be sticking to roadways.

Lower temperatures are expected Tuesday night, but the chance of snow showers will diminish as the storm system leaves the area.

Snow showers or ice may return on Thursday, when another weather system combines with cold air in the region.
