DAMASCUS, Ore. - Authorities are trying to link a man to a Damascus burglary that occurred last month in which the criminal struggled to keep up his pants and ended up falling over a curb during his escape.
The May 18 burglary at Pub 212 was captured on video by a surveillance system, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. The video shows a man smash the front glass door at the establishment at 20400 S.E. Highway 212 shortly before 5 a.m. in order to enter inside. The burglar then grabs a cash register but is seen with his pants falling as he struggles to get back out the front door. Once outside, he takes a tumble near a curb while struggling with his pants and the register, the sheriff's office said.
He manages to escape, however, with the help of someone else, who drives him away. What the burglar didn't realize was that all of his effort was for naught - the cash register was empty, the sheriff's office said.
Over the course of several weeks, investigators developed a suspect, 53-year-old Billie Vernon Woolstenhulme, who is being held in the Clackamas County Jail on unrelated charges. They did not specify why he is suspected of involvement in the crime. Deputies on Friday did execute a search warrant at a Damascus home where he had been living and seized unspecified evidence. He has not been charged in connection with the burglary.
They hope someone will come forward with information on the burglary by calling the sheriff's office confidential Tip Line at (503) 723-4949.
