PORTLAND, Ore. - Whether or not to rename 39th Avenue for Mexican labor leader Cesar Chavez is a debate that has been going on for weeks and on Tuesday night it dragged out for hours as people packed the City Council chambers to hear the discussion.

The chambers were packed so tightly that some folks had to go to an overfill room and even though the City Council will not officially be deciding until next month, commissioners got an earful from those on both sides of the argument.

The City Council accepted the planning commission's recommendation to rename 39th and will take the comments from both sides into consideration when they meet again to decide if the name should actually change.
