Drunk driving teen dies after wrecking car

TUALATIN, Ore. - A 19-year-old who was driving drunk crashed his car while speeding on a Tualatin street Monday night, leading to his death and injuries to his passenger, police said.

The deceased was identified as Jose Manuel Hernandez Bailon.

According to Tualatin police, Hernandez Bailon was driving a 1994 Honda Accord north on Southwest Grahams Ferry Road about 10:45 p.m. when he lost control around a curve near Southwest Sitka Court and struck a fence and then a tree. The vehicle rolled several times before landing on its top; the occupants were trapped inside.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews had to free the pair from the car. Hernandez Bailon was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Oregon Health and Science University, where he later died as a result of his injuries, police said. His passenger, 19-year-old Michael Figueroa, was taken by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. He suffered a broken nose.

Police determined Hernandez Bailon's blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.

Southwest Grahams Ferry Road was closed for about five hours during the crash investigation. it was reopened about 4 a.m. Tuesday.
