Hot weather settles in for July Fourth weekend
By KATU Weather and KATU.com StaffPORTLAND, Ore. - Locals know how it usually goes: Summer in Oregon really doesn't start until July 5th, when the rainclouds that soaked Independence Day gatherings the day before finally dissipate. But that doesn't appear to be the case this year. Temperatures are going to reach the 90s over the next few days heading into the holiday weekend. It should be close to 90 on Saturday, July Fourth. Officials want to remind those headed outdoors to prepare ahead of time by using sunscreen and bringing lots of water. Alcoholic drinks, soda pop, energy drinks, many iced teas and even some sports drinks can actually dehydrate you rather than replace fluids lost to sweat and heat. Water is the best liquid to drink to stay hydrated, according to medical professionals and athletic trainers.
Here's a look at Thursday's high temperatures across the rest of the region:
Folks on the coast will see temperatures in the mid-70s for the northern coast and mid-60s for the central and southern coast. Expect large crowds in the Portland area Saturday night as there will be no Fort Vancouver fireworks show this year for the first time in decades. |
