Portland Police Detectives are currently attempting to locate a missing Northeast Portland man who may seem confused and may have dementia. Detectives say they have reason to believe that 70-year-old Daniel Rollin Thompson currently poses a danger to his own safety, but not to the public. Thompson was reported missing to Portland Police this afternoon, after failing to return from a walk, the day before. Thompson, who lives with his adult son, was last seen by a neighbor, walking near his home, in the 200 block of Northeast 97th Avenue, on July 1, 2009, at approximately 11:30 am.
Thompson is described as a white male, 70 years old, with white hair and brown eyes. He is 5’4” tall and weighs 135 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red sweater or jacket over a white shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. Thompson may appear to have a problem with his balance and may walk slowly.
Detectives say family members mistakenly believed they had to wait twenty-four hours before reporting Thompson as missing. The Portland Police Bureau would like to take the opportunity to remind the public there is no waiting period required to report a missing person, especially if the individual may be endangered or otherwise considered to be at-risk.
Anyone with information about Thompson’s whereabouts is asked to immediately call 9-1-1. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Portland Police Bureau’s Missing Persons Unit at 503-823-0446.
