Police investigate shooting of teen
PORTLAND, Ore. - Police are investigating the shooting of a teen in North Portland on Sunday.
Police said the victim, who is a 14- or 15-year-old boy, was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital but was in very grave condition. His name was not released.
A police spokesman initially told KATU News that the teen had died but later changed that information to indicate the teen was still alive.
According to police, an officer was on routine patrol when he saw the teen injured near the intersection of North Killingsworth Street and North Albina Avenue about 4:15 p.m. The teen was suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Police said the suspect got away just as the officer arrived at the scene. The officer was able to get a description of the suspect, however.
No arrests were made as of early Sunday evening.
"We have at least one witness who saw some portion of the incident," said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, a police spokesman. "We're hoping from a canvass that we'll start ... finding additional witnesses."
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Detective Jon Rhodes at (503) 823-0549 or Detective Lynn Courtney at (503) 823-0541.
