Gresham family dog shot twice
GRESHAM, Ore. - A Gresham family's dog was recovering Tuesday after someone shot it twice when it ran outside while its owners investigated strange noises from their yard.
The dog's owners said Kasi, their 8-year-old husky, darted out their front door when they opened it after hearing strange noises on a recent night. The owners also left their front gate open, and Kasi bolted out into the darkness.
A few minutes later, the owners heard three loud noises that sounded like fireworks. Kasi limped back bleeding, allegedly shot by someone lurking outside.
Veterinarians at DoveLewis Animal Hospital in Northwest Portland treated the husky's wounds. DoveLewis also helped pay for the husky's treatment through the Charlie Fund, a donor supported program to help with the medical bills of abused animals.
DoveLewis vets remain optimistic about Kasi's recovery.
"She ate a small amount of food this afternoon," said Dr. Welker, a veterinarian at DoveLewis. "If she continues to eat and everything else goes well, she should be able to be released this evening."
Gresham police are still investigating the shooting.
