OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) - The attorney for an Oregon City man convicted of criminal mistreatment in the faith-healing death of his young daughter is trying to block his sentencing.

Defense attorney Mark Cogan has filed a motion arguing the jury should have used a different standard to decide whether Carl Brent Worthington and his wife, Raylene, knew that withholding medical care could harm their daughter.

A Clackamas County jury acquitted the couple of more serious manslaughter charges, but convicted Carl Worthington of criminal mistreatment, a misdemeanor that could send him to jail for up to a year.

Judge Steven Maurer will hear arguments from Worthington's attorney at a sentencing hearing on Friday afternoon.
