NORTH BONNEVILLE, Wash. - A man accused of using a stun gun on a 79-year-old relative told KATU News Thursday he's not sorry about the incident.
Aaron deBruyn, 26, is accused of using a stun gun on his wife's grandmother Wednesday morning after he got into a fight with her regarding the spanking of his infant son.
His wife, Caroline deBruyn, said the grandmother, Rosemary Garlock, (pictured at right) asked her and her husband not to spank the child. She said the grandmother was asked to leave the apartment but refused so her husband used the stun gun on her while the elderly woman sat on the couch.
"It was only for one or two seconds, and then she was screaming mad again," Caroline deBruyn said. Later, things calmed down.
"She got up, took a shower, got dressed, we kissed and hugged - she went home," Caroline deBruyn said.
Police were called to the home and arrested the man.
During a court hearing Thursday, Aaron deBruyn pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge, which carries up to a year in prison if he is convicted.
When he walked out of jail, he kissed his son and said he wasn't sorry.
The man said he had warned the elderly woman several times that he planned to stun her.
"...She did not listen," he said. "It's my house, and I asked her to leave."
The grandmother turned the blinds down when KATU News went to her house for comment. She apparently did not suffer any serious injuries from the incident.
As for her granddaughter, (pictured at left with her son) she's siding with her husband and is not talking to the grandmother who raised her.
"Unfortunately the relationship with my grandmother is probably permanently damaged," Caroline deBruyn said.
Aaron deBruyn is on leave from his job as an EMT and is not allowed within 300 yards of the grandmother.
Police seized the stun gun.
