Two people survived after their small plane lost power and the pilot had to land in a field near the Creswell Airport, about 10 miles south of Eugene. This is a stark contrast to another downed plane in the same area, less than a month earlier, where the pilot died and the plane sparked a massive grass fire.

The pilot and passenger in this upside down plane survived the crash south of Eugene.
CRESWELL, Ore. - Two people survived after their small plane lost power and the pilot had to land in a field. This happened south of Eugene.
Our sister station, KVAL-TV, was there as emergency crews pulled the two people out of the wreckage near the Creswell Airport, which is about 10 miles south of Eugene.
Jeffrey and Sheryl Thomas both received only minor injures. Some said that's an amazing thing given that when the plane landed, the rough terrain caused it to flip. Even upside down, the plane kept the two alive.
The results are a stark contrast to another small-plane crash near the Creswell Airport on Aug. 23. The plane crash was deadly.
Witnesses said the plane was towing a glider, which disconnected from the single-engine plane before it crashed. The glider landed safely, but the pilot of the plane died.
The crash sparked a 40-acre grass fire. Firefighters were able to put it out quickly. The cause of both crashes remain under investigation.
