LONG BEACH, Wash. - The story unfolds in a murder investigation for a crime that continues to shock the town of Long Beach.

Police in Long Beach said two officers witnessed Brian Brush shooting his ex-girlfriend in the back Friday afternoon. Also witnessing the shooting were dozens of tourists in town for a car festival.

KATU has discovered that the accused - Brian Brush of Roseburg, Ore. - is a former Medford, Ore., police officer. Now the owner of a boat company, in 2008 Brush's company laid off enough employees to inspire coverage from KPIC in Roseburg, a KATU sister station.

Police also confirmed what the victim's sister told KATU News previously that in July Lisa Bonney had filed a restraining order against Brush, her ex-boyfriend, because she thought he was going to kill her.

Prosecutors will decide this week what charges to file against Brush. He is accused of gunning down Bonney last Friday in plain sight at a Long Beach car show.

Brush is a former Medford police officer who owns a Roseburg-based boat company. Right now he is in jail on $50 million bail.
