Police: Woman ran in front of truck near I-5

ALBANY, Ore. - A Saturday morning crash 40 miles north of Eugene killed a woman who reportedly ran out onto Highway 34. The highway is about 100 yards west of Interstate 5.

Oregon State Police troopers, with the assistance of Linn County Sheriff's Office, are continuing an investigation into the accident. Investigators said they are seeking any witnesses who may have been at a nearby gas station and saw a possible disturbance involving a woman and a man in a blue 1995 Mercury Mystique four-door displaying Nevada license 280 VTX.

The accident happened just before 6 a.m. Saturday. Officers and Albany Fire Department personnel responded and found a critically injured 42-year-old woman, identified as Mary Ann Bradford, in the highway.

Bradford was transported by ambulance to Albany General Hospital where she died about two hours later. State troopers have located next of kin in the St. Helens area. Bradford's last-known residence, according information on her ID card, is the Alaska town of Klawock.

According to reports, Bradford ran from the area of an Arco gas station on the south side of Highway 34 into the westbound lanes in front of a Chevron station. She was struck in the left lane by a westbound 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup driven by a 68 year old from Lebanon, Ore.  The pickup driver was using safety restraints and was not injured.

The vehicle of interest was not at the scene when emergency responders arrived. The Mercury left the scene in an unknown direction.

Anyone who may have witnessed the reported disturbance at the Chevron gas station, or with information about the vehicle of interest, is asked to call Oregon State Police's Northern Command Center dispatch at (800) 452-7888.
