Albany crash leads police to robbery suspect

ALBANY, Ore. - A second suspect has been arrested for an Albany armed robbery that police said left the female clerk and a customer afraid for their lives.

In a bizarre twist, this second suspect nearly landed in police's lap.

Surveillance video at AJ's Haus in Albany, Ore.Albany police have arrested 36-year-old Eugene resident James Patrick Trimble on charges of robbery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree and unlawful use of a weapon. While armed with a knife, Trimble reportedly told the clerk she would be shot if she did not comply. He got away with an undisclosed sum.

Trimble was wanted in connection with the armed robbery that took place Oct. 14 at AJ's Haus, an Albany tavern/lottery retailer at 1123 S.E. Santiam Highway. An employee reported that two male suspects, later Photos from an armed robbery in Albany, Ore., Wednesday morning.identified as Trimble and Bill Diaz (arrested Oct. 22), entered the business wearing ski masks and demanded money.

The employee reported that Trimble was armed with a knife and Diaz with a bat.

On Oct. 15 Albany Police Detectives, working on a tip, identified Trimble as a suspect in this robbery. At around 2:30 p.m. that same day, Albany police were dispatched to a single vehicle crash that happened in the 2400 block of Southeast Geary Street. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was identified as James Trimble. Trimble was transported to Samaritan Albany General Hospital where he was admitted for injuries sustained in the crash.

Albany Police Detectives served a search warrant on James Trimble's vehicle and recovered evidence directly linking him to this robbery. Albany Police Detectives arrested James Trimble on Friday, Oct. 23, when he was released from Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

Albany Police Detectives arrested Diaz on Oct. 22 outside the Motel 6 in Albany. Both suspects were transported to Linn County Jail.
