PORTLAND, Ore. - High winds and rain caused problems for drivers and pedestrians alike today in the Portland metropolitan area.

City work crews responded to reports of clogged drains, standing water and flooding throughout the Portland area.

Street closures include Southeast 92nd Avenue from Division Street to Powell Boulevard and Southwest Macadam Avenue at Southwest Carolina Street. Other areas to avoid are:

  • Southwest Arthur Street at Naito Parkway before the Ross Island Bridge
  • Northeast Lloyd Boulevard under Interstate 5 behind the Convention Center
  • Southeast Grand Avenue from Pine to Oak streets
  • Southeast Foster Road from 160th to 172nd avenues.

A spokesperson for the Portland’s Bureau of Transportation has asked residents to help clear storm drains by standing on the curb and using a rake or pitchfork. Citizens are being told to rake leaves and debris about 12 inches from the curb to keep them out of the drainage channel and avoid further street flooding.
