The apartment complex in Gresham where a woman said she was stabbed and robbed, sparking what police say was undue concern from neighbors this weekend.
GRESHAM, Ore. - Gresham police have arrested the woman who this weekend set off panic in her neighborhood after she reported she was stabbed while her purse was stolen outside her Gresham home.
Police arrested the woman, Shannon Kelley, at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9. A KATU reporter tried to contact the woman (reported then as Shannon Dove) over the weekend. The woman spoke through her apartment door only to say that she was "fine."
Kelley had reported to police that she was the victim of an armed robbery with a knife on Saturday, Nov. 7, around 8 p.m.
Police now tell KATU that, after re-contacting Kelley, the woman told officers that she had lied. Officers then said that Kelley told them that she was injecting heroin when the needle became stuck in her arm. She took a razor blade and tried to cut it out, but she cut too
deeply - causing a significant injury.
Kelley reportedly told police that she "got scared and decided to make up the story regarding a robbery," according to a press release sent to KATU from the Gresham Police Department.
Officers said they first became suspicious when they found the alleged stolen property in her room after she was transported to the hospital.
Kelley was taken into custody and lodged at Multnomah County Detention Center on the following charges:
Initiating a false police report, with bail set at $1,000
Improper use of 9-1-1, with bail set at $2,500
Disorderly conduct II, with bail set at $1,500.
