Boat takes on water after drainage plug is left out

Boat takes on water after drainage plug is left out

PORTLAND, Ore. - A couple of boaters on the Columbia River called for help after their boat started taking on water and they were in danger of sinking.

According to Lt. Jason Gates with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, two people in a Bayliner got under way with the drainage plug out and when they got downstream from the Interstate Bridge, they called for help.

A Portland fire boat and a Multnomah County Sheriff's Office marine patrol were able to get to the boat and use portable pumps to pump out the water.  They then proceeded to tow the boat to shore.
