Ore. police training chief resigns

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The director of the state agency responsible for training and certifying police officers in Oregon has resigned amid an attorney general's investigation.

John Minnis, a former legislator and husband of former Oregon House Speaker Karen Minnis, submitted his resignation Tuesday from the $120,000-a-year job.

Neither the state Department of Justice nor Gov. Ted Kulongoski's office would characterize the nature of conduct that's being investigated.

Kulongoski's spokeswoman, Anna Richter Taylor, said Minnis was placed on administrative leave Monday and then was asked by the governor to resign effectively immediately on Tuesday.

The former Portland police officer was appointed by Kulongoski in 2004 to lead the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
