RAINIER, Ore. - The man who in September led police on chase to a reputed St. Helens, Ore., meth house was shot Saturday night at a trailer park in Rainier.
Columbia County sheriff dispatch was called 11:23 p.m. Saturday with a report that "shots had been heard in the vicinity of the Price Road Trailer Park," according to Columbia County Sheriff's Office release.
William M. Temple, age 29, was taken to St. John Hospital in Longview with apparent gunshot wounds. He has since been airlifted by LifeFlight helicopter to the Oregon Health and Science University hospital in Portland.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office and the Columbia County major crimes team are investigating the shooting. Investigators said they do not have a suspect at this time.
Police from St. Helens, Rainier, Clatskanie, Columbia City, Scappoose, Oregon State and Vernonia also responded to offer assistance.
"Columbia 9-1-1 dispatched a tactical dispatcher to the command post," said Sheriff Jeff Dickerson in the release, "and the Clatskanie Rural Fire Protection District responded to assist as well."
Temple was charged with meth possession and eluding police in the September incident. Three others at the reputed meth house were arrested once police followed his trail. Police said they had responded to that same house 50 times in the past nine years. It is unclear whether Saturday's shooting is related.
