MultCo chairman Wheeler breaks back in skiing fall

BEND, Ore. - Multnomah County Chairman Ted Wheeler is recovering in a Bend hospital after he was seriously injured in a skiing crash.
    
Wheeler posted information about his most serious injury – a broken back – on his Twitter account and also posted pictures and details of his injuries on his Facebook page.

Wheeler told KATU News he blacked out for five minutes after the crash and doesn't remember anything from the accident.

Wheeler was wearing a helmet when he crashed. In a post-crash photo, the helmet had several gouge marks.

Wheeler’s wife says he wasn't going too fast but that the early snow conditions "got the best of him.”

According to posts from Wheeler, it did not appear he was suffering and long-term injuries but he is expected to take some time to recover.
