Police: Kidnapping suspect killed himself
SALEM, Ore. – An alleged kidnapping ended Monday night with a man killing himself in front of police.
Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a duplex at Midway Avenue and 36th just before 6 p.m. on a report of a kidnapping.
Detectives said as a deputy walked up to the home a man walked out holding a gun. According to the sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Sheila Lorance, the deputy told the man to put the gun down but the man shot and killed himself.
A woman, who was the victim of an alleged domestic assault and kidnapping, was found safe elsewhere.
Late Monday night investigators said they were attempting to search the woman’s car that was found outside the Target store in northeast Salem but said they had received information that there may be a bomb or bomb-making materials in it.
They are currently in the process of obtaining a search warrant to get the bomb squad involved.
Lorance said police have set up a perimeter around the car and she said police have not positively identified the man who killed himself.
