Keizer intersection shooting leaves one dead
KEIZER, Ore. - A man shot near an intersection just north of Salem, Ore., late Tuesday night has died in a Salem hospital. Police have yet to release the man's identify.
At 10:07 p.m. Tuesday, officers from the Keizer Police Department responded to the area of Partridge Lane NE and Clearview Avenue NE on a report several gunshots had been discharged at or near these Keizer streets. Officers said they found a male, described by police as the victim, lying on the ground and hit with gunfire.
Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene to provide medical assistance to the victim. The victim was transported to Salem Hospital where he died from his injuries Wednesday morning.
This victim has been identified as 21-year-old Travis Clawson. An autopsy to verify the cause of death was scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Clackamas.
The crime scene intersection has been cordoned off by the responding officers, rerouting morning traffic through the Partridge Lane NE and Clearview Avenue NE area. Investigators expect the street to reopen by 6 p.m.
Additionally, Clearview Avenue NE between Cherry Avenue NE and the 1100 block of Clearview Avenue NE was closed. A K-9 team conducted a search of this area following the shooting, but police said no suspects were located.
Investigators believe the area of the crime scene will remain closed for several hours after sunrise in order for them to search for potential evidence during daylight hours. A command post is being established at the scene of the incident for investigators.
Keizer police are continuing to investigate the shooting. We are being assisted by members of the Marion County Homicide Assault Response Team (H.A.R.T.), the Marion County District Attorney's Office and Victim's Assistance. Additionally, a deputy district attorney from the Marion County District Attorney's Office and members of the Marion County Homicide Assault Response Team visited the scene.
Investigators said they do not believe this was a random act of violence. They have been able to identify one individual who fired a firearm. This individual was being interviewed by investigators Wednesday.
