CLACKAMAS, Ore. - Snow and studded tires as well as snow shovels flew of the shelves Friday as people throughout the area prepared themselves for the chance of freezing rain and snow in the area this weekend.

But they weren’t the only things people clamored for Friday: many loaded up on groceries just in case they get stranded at home.

Friday is typically a busy day at WINCO, according to Perry York an assistant manager of the Clackamas store, but he said this Friday was busier than any he could remember.

“If they (customers) hear ice or snow, people often want to be prepared for that if it happens,” York said. “So we get a little bit busier than we normally would be.”

From the produce section to the meat coolers, the aisles were packed all day with shoppers. And checkers have been ringing up purchases at a frenetic pace.

“The responsibility of any good parent is to make sure there’s food in the house and to do what is needed to be done,” said shopper Chrystell Manning.

“We live out in Happy Valley and rather than come across the hill at least we’ll have something, and we can stay in and eat for a little bit,” shopper Dave Burgess said.

Others, however, weren’t so worried.

“Got my 4-wheel drive, got a generator at home. We’re all set,” said Tim Woodward.

But he did pick up something warm to wrap up in during these frosty nights - a Snuggie.

He said, however, it was for his wife.

A lot of people said they got caught with empty cupboards and were stranded in the snow without much food in past years. They said they weren’t going to let that happen to them this weekend.
