Oregon Ducks aren't quacking up over SNL skit
EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon football grabbed some national media attention on late night television Saturday.
NBC's Saturday Night Live performed a skit - featuring Twilight's Taylor Lautner - that mocked pre-recorded player introductions broadcast during football games. Lautner played the role of a made-up, Ducks backup Quarterback, Phil Pomeroy.
However, the Saturday Night Live sketch based on the University of Oregon Ducks football team's trip to the Rose Bowl didn't tickle the funny bone of many Oregonians watching.
"It wasn't funny regardless," said Duck T.J. Ward. "I'm waiting for the punch line or a joke or something. It was a little too silly for me."
The sketch mocked a backup quarterback's efforts to film a pre-produced player introduction for the Rose Bowl. Some who saw the commercial said it wasn't targeting University of Oregon specifically. Rather, because of Oregon's much-lauded Civil War pitting Oregon State University's team against UO's team for the Rose Bowl berth, the Ducks just happened to be the most recognizable Rose Bowl contender for a Saturday Night Live "Road to the Rose Bowl" sketch.
