WASHINGTON COUNTY - A local couple got a New Year's surprise when a car landed in their livingroom.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. at a home in the 10000 block of Northwest Helvetia Road.

Charlie Cook, who lives in the home with his wife, Angela, were uninjured but they now have a lot of damage to deal with.

According to officials with Washington County Fire District 2, the driver, Benjamin Arnold, was on his way home from his job in Cornelius when the accident occurred. Police say he had fallen into a diabetic shock while driving.

Arnold is fine now and police said he would most likely not get a ticket.

The Cooks, who have lived in the home since 1958, said there have been about 40 accidents in front of their house over the years but no one had made contact until now.

The damage is estimated to be between $75,000 and $100,000.
