All of the kids were able to get out of the bus with nothing more serious than bumps and bruises, said a spokesperson for the Skagit County Sheriff's Office.
State Patrol troopers were dispatched to the scene, near Burkland and Nelson roads, at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
One witness at the scene said the bus was headed west when it rolled over on its side into a ditch after it got too near the edge of the road.
An investigation determined that the 41-year-old bus driver, who was substituting for the regular bus driver, was looking down at a route map when the bus strayed off the pavement and rolled into the ditch.
The bus had just left Conway School minutes before the crash happened. The kids on board ranged from ages 5-14.
Todd Mitchell, who had two children aboard the bus, said the kids were "a little shook up" but otherwise unhurt.
"Everybody looked just fine," he said.
