CORVALLIS, Ore. - Surveillance cameras at an Izzy’s restaurant captured a robber pulling a gun on a clerk and customers jumping in to stop him.

Customers were playing video poker Tuesday night and at about 7:40 p.m. a man in a hoodie walked in behind them and showed a clerk a gun.

The video shows the robber trying to grab money from the clerk’s till. The clerk then slaps his arms and hands, and the robber gives up and turns to run. But customers hear a commotion, leap up to try and stop the robber by running and grabbing at him; however, despite their efforts the robber escapes.

Corvallis police said the robber was able to make off with some cash from the till and they hope someone will recognize him from the surveillance video.

Police said the man’s white, about six feet tall, and has a thick brown or black mustache.

They said the suspect was wearing blue jeans, a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses.

Police said it is not necessarily the wisest choice for people to fight back in situations like this. They said the best thing a person can do is to try and be great witness. Police said witnesses should try and remember things like what the robber said, what he touched, and anything about him that was unique, like an unusual ring, a limp, etc.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Poole of the Corvallis Police Department at 541-766-6975.
