PORTLAND, Ore. - People wearing nothing but hats, shoes and sunscreen will pick up litter and garbage at two beaches this weekend.

The event is sponsored by the American Association for Nude Recreation in partnership with SOLV, an organization that regularly hosts cleanups along Oregon's rivers and coastline.

"We appreciate the efforts of the American Association for Nude Recreation in preserving the beauty of Oregon's rivers and beaches," Jack McGowan, Executive Director for SOLV, said in a statement released to the media.  "Oregonians enjoy the beauty of our state for 364 days a year and on at least one day a year, they go out of their way to give back by helping pick up litter."

Organizers expect hundreds to head out to help clean up Rooster Rock State Park on Saturday and Collins Beach on Sunday.

Saturday, August 4

  • Rooster Rock State Park
  • Located 22 miles east of Portland off Interstate 84
  • Cleanup begins at 9:30 a.m.

Sunday, August 5

  • Collins Beach
  • Follow U.S. 30 west from Portland to the Sauvie Island exit, then take Reeder Road to its end
  • Cleanup begins at 9:30 a.m.
