EUGENE. Ore. - A vital player on the University of Oregon's football team has been handed a one-game suspension for bad behavior and will miss the next game.

Donald Duck, the team's hot-tempered mascot, will not be on hand for this Saturday's game against Fresno State following an "incident" with the Houston Cougar's mascot, which is a big, red cougar.

School officials say they received several complaints from Oregon fans about the mascot's altercations during the Oregon/Houston match-up in which the Oregon team, and apparently their mascot, pounded the Cougars.

There were no complaints received about Oregon's play on the field in the 48-27 win.

Witnesses say the mascots had to be separated twice during their on-field antics, which included Donald kicking and shoving the Cougar's mascot when it attempted to emulate the Duck's traditional post-touchdown push-ups.

Other skirmishes on the sidelines, which were caught on tape and seemed to include pro-wrestling-type moves, had to be broken up by cheerleaders. No one was injured.

In past short animated films, Donald Duck has been known for his quick temper and penchant for revenge, including flattening a luxury car that his nephews, Huey, Louie and Dewey Duck, won in a radio contest and intended to give their uncle, who at the time was operating a service station.

The vehicle was destroyed.

School officials have not said if future altercations would result in longer suspensions, or if Donald Duck would have to serve probation or wear a GPS ankle bracelet.

Donald Duck has been the Oregon mascot since the 1950s. His exact age is not known.
