Jeremiah Masoli will walk-on at Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. – Just days after his tell-all article hit the pages of "Sports Illustrated," it appears that former Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli has found his new home.
Long rumored to be the front runner, on Tuesday Masoli announced on his website that he will indeed be an Ole Miss Rebel.
Masoli has been accepted into graduate school at the University of Mississippi in the town of Oxford. He was invited to walk-on to the football team by head coach Houston Nutt.
The move comes after Masoli was kicked off the 2011 Ducks football roster, surrounding a guilty plea on misdemeanor burglary charges (related to a theft at a University of Oregon fraternity house) and a traffic stop where cops found marijuana and Masoli driving on a suspended license. Masoli now claims he "lied but did not steal" in the fraternity house case.
A report from NFL.com said Masoli was expected to file paperwork to enter the NFL's supplemental draft on July 15. The draft is for players who have been booted off college teams or have been ruled academically ineligible. July 15 came, and went.
The Associated Press then reported Masoli was asked to visit the Mississippi college, on the request of Nutt, on July 30.
Masoli said he plans to be in Oxford by Wednesday to start conditioning drills with the rest of the team.
