ALOHA, Ore. - Police arrested a woman this week twice for allowing her 2-year-old child to wander the streets alone only in a diaper, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say not only did 23-year-old Alexandra Watkins allow it to happen in those two incidents but two more times as well in the past week.
A TriMet bus driver spotted the child at about 3 a.m. Monday as the 2-year-old walked alone along a sidewalk on a 45 mph stretch of Southwest 185th Avenue near Johnson Street. The child was wearing only a diaper.
The bus driver took the child onto the bus and called police. But while deputies were on their way, the child's mother came and took the child from the bus driver.
Deputies tracked the mother down to her nearby apartment and it was there they learned the child had walked away from the apartment twice before in the previous five days.
Police arrested Watkins and her other children were taken to a family member by DHS.
When Watkins was released from jail and got her children back, less than 11 hours later deputies said the 2-year-old was spotted again walking only in a diaper next to Southwest 185th Avenue.
Watkins was arrested again and deputies say they believe she had made no effort to keep an eye on her child and keep the child safe.
Watkins was taken to the county jail and held on $5,000 bail on two counts of second-degree child neglect.
