Driver crashes into house while trying to elude police

HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. - A driver who was trying to make a run from police ended up crashing his car into a house.

It all started just before midnight Thursday when police tried to pull someone over at Southeast 172nd Avenue and Sunnyside Road.

The driver took off, crashed into a home not far away and then fled on foot. Police searched the area and later found their suspect at Southeast 139th and Sunnyside Road.

Volodmyr Kokhanevych, 18, is facing charges of reckless driving, felony attempt to elude police, failure to perform the duties of a driver, reckless endangering and first-degree criminal mischief. Bail was set at $45,000.

According to police, Kokhanevych has a recent history of arrests in Portland, Eugene and Troutdale for first-degree theft, criminal mischief, first-degree burglary, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

There were two passengers riding in Kokhanevych's car during all of this. Neither one of them were hurt and police did not arrest them.

No one in the house was hurt either but the home was badly damaged.
