Family escapes house fire in Gresham

GRESHAM, Ore. – A family escaped a house fire in Gresham that firefighters said started in their back yard and quickly spread to their home Saturday night.
Firefighters said embers shot close to 100 feet into the air and started nearly a dozen small fires near the home, located at 280 NE 26th St.
The fire started at around 8:30 p.m. and quickly spread to the home and attic, firefighters said. They called for more resources to contain the fire with a second alarm as a precautionary measure.
The homeowner told KATU News that her husband tried to put the fire out with a garden hose, but it spread too quickly.
No one was hurt. It’s unclear what caused the fire.
what a bunch of idiots.
We seen this last night. Very sad. People were say(don't know if it's true) that someone walking by threw there cigg. And that's what caused it. If that's true, people need to understand that you need to be careful when smoking. A little thing and do a lot of damage.
@EKCoupe I wholeheartedly agree. I'm getting to the point, after seeing so many burned patches on the side of the road in both OR & CA, that we should start citing butt-throwers for both littering & attempted arson when cops see it. Absolutely FOOLISH to throw any burning material from a vehicle, including the most common one, the often still smoldering cigarette butt.
