PORTLAND, Ore. - Police are warning the public about a convicted sex offender who is considered a high risk to strike again.
Gordon Michael Strauss, who has been deemed by mental health officials as a psychopath and sadist with no ability to feel remorse, was recently released from a hospital in Central Washington and is now homeless and living in Portland.
Strauss is registered at Northwest 9th and Lovejoy. Police say if you see him, you should be on guard because two of his victims were snatched off the street.
"Typically, he preys on only girls from 13 to 22," said Officer Bridget Sickon with the Portland Police Bureau. "They're the type of crimes where he will meet somebody on the sidewalk or somewhere and be very nice to them and sort of ingratiate himself to them and maybe ask for a ride or a cigarette or something. And then all of a sudden there's a blitz attack. Two of his attacks were with knives."
Strauss has been convicted of four rapes since the early 1980s. He is not on supervised probation but police say he is very much on their radar.

When I saw him again on the news tonight I relized he was at the ARCO - in Vancouver WA. off 164th and the intersection of SE 1st street a few days ago getting gas in an old Harley. I thought to myself what on earth was anyone on a cycle in the cold? I thought it was him? Now I know forsure it was as I he was wearing the leather jacket in picture and tonight he was holding a helmet. So is he allowed to cross the border without telling anyone? Scarey.
not on supervised probation? what the hell merits supervision these days?! That's just downright irresponsible of our justice system. If any of you see this guy, make it very apparent to others around you who he is, and what he is.

I don't understand why he isn't in jail or locked up at the mental hospital! Who released this guy and thinks it's okay to let him wander and prey on children?! Four rapes and he's walking the streets, I am absolutely outraged!

This guy is just one of many. I live near a county services building, and in the past year there have been three homeless predatory sex offenders nesting in my neighborhood. Each time it happens (and there will be more), a very tense mood settles over the area until the guy is arrested for intimidation / intoxication / following young girls. They usually come back to the area, thanks to the revolving-door policies at the county jail. The Portland Police officers I have met while dealing with these guys have been very good about sharing information, and they are quick to arrive if one of these bozos even sneezes with excusing himself. It makes me feel better, but I still gave my girls Ruger Ultra Pepper Spray for protection.
Folks, he's not the only dangerous predatory offender on our streets. He's just the poster boy. Until our city and state change policies that attract these folks from all corners of the US, and until we demand better treatment/sentencing laws for violent offenders, our new Mayor and our state leaders have no call to take away the right of lawful citizens to defend themselves.Â

Evensteven; What the hell is "before he rapes a defenseless liberal puke" supposed to mean? First of all, some of his victims are too young to vote, second, how can you call a victim of a violent sex crime a "defenseless liberal puke"?
 @Even Steven No CCL holder wants to ever have to shoot anyone. We know that, even in a justified shooting, we will deal with the psychological, social and legal traumatic aftermath of such an encounter. However, I do hope that whomever this person attacks next DOES have the ability to fight back. As CCL holder who has survived violent attacks, I have been taught to avoid dangerous places....but in reality, the world is a dangerous place. We don't have the right to be "safe", but we do have the right to protect ourselves.Â

The republicans didn't kill the mental health and social programs or empty the prisons,and hospitals.The democrats have been in charge of the budgets and total (miss) management of Oregons govt for more than 30 years. Every state dept for 30 plus years.

Look at the past of the last three governors Kitz, Kulongooonski and Retread. All three have slashed state police funding (half the officers on the road as 30 years ago with twice the population), The current democrat controled legislature (and Gov Retread) are trying to release something upwards of 300 violent offenders right now as just on the radio early last week. Check out the fired Oregon State Speaker of the house Dave Hunt pushed early release like hell. Why you ask, so they could keep funneling money to their developer buddies at the PDC , Light rail, WES, SoWhat districts, bridges to nowhere etc.

 @Steam Donkey  @Cameron Yes, the dems have done their share of damage, but during Reagan's term in office the social service budget, including that for funding mental hospitals, was cut form $38 billion when he came in to $7 billion as he walked out the door. This goes beyond a state issue, it has been an issue at the national level for much longer than it has been a state issue. i am neither dem or rep, they are both broken wings on the same quiockly dying bird.

It is not like breaking your arm as a teen where, when the pain goes away it's over. If you are raped at ANY age, the pain is lifelong. This pos is a special case. He does not commit a "crime of passion", he did not stop at one crime. He has proven that he could not give a crap about anything in this world except feeding his evil perversions. What people are talking about is not punishing him, but protecting society from him. Psychopath or not. Sane people who are not going around holding knives to people's throats and raping them have rights too, no?

 @Douglas J. Heuer Um, stupid much? you will get at most 18 months for small amounts of pot in this state. A rapist gets at least 70 months on measure !!, IF its your first time. More if its not and life if its three for you. Only crime category you have three strikes for in this state are sex offenses. So please, if your going to be ridiculous please do so with the correct facts.
