Neighbors on edge as police search for Lake O murder suspect

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – Detectives continue to comb a neighborhood near Lake Oswego in search of a murder suspect who’s accused of stabbing a man to death at his home early Monday morning.
Neighbors said officers, some in unmarked cars, drove by their homes every 10 to 15 minutes Tuesday.
Detectives said they’re continuing to follow up on leads. They do not believe the victim, 57-year-old Fredrick "Fritz" Hayes, knew the suspect.
Some neighbors believe the suspect may have been familiar with the neighborhood before the deadly attack.
“He had to have been around because that couple goes on a walk every morning,” said neighbor Tyler Dean. “He must have known they were going to be out at that specific time. He came in while they were gone. So he’d been around and known.”
“It makes no sense. There’s no sense to anything,” said neighbor Nancy Jones-Garrow. “They were quiet and everyone loved them.”
Jones-Garrow said she didn’t sleep much last night and her daughter didn’t stay at home because she was afraid.
Another neighbor told KATU News she heard someone try to get into her home, rattling a locked door knob a few houses away.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Witnesses said Hayes was walking his dog with his wife at around 6:30 a.m. when the suspect stabbed Hayes outside their home.
The suspect (pictured in the artist's sketch on the right) ran away after the attack and Hayes' wife called 9-1-1.
Police made reverse-9-1-1 calls to about 4,000 homes with a description and warning about the suspect.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot tall white male with a brown beard, slender build, wearing a "headwrap" and light clothing. The suspect also was described as having several "edge weapons."

They need to look in the wooded area near wilsonville h.s. Lots of homeless and such live down in that area. did she a tall guy on weds in that area .. big dude      Â
So the wife was the only witness? How long between stabbing and calling for help? Seems odd that Jesus would just show and and stab somebody then be impossible to find. Hmmmm............
Live not far from where this happened...Everyone in the area has a theory - Mine is pretty simple, because of the length of time that has passed since Monday morning, and NO other info from police/sheriff has been released, It has got to have been a planned attack - I have NO proof, just my hunch - The dogs could not pickup the scent because this guy is long gone...someone must have picked him up in vehicle. I'm sure more will come out in the next few days. Â
Hitman.
Is that the Bhagwan?
My first thought when I heard this story was that the wife has something to do with it. I am not trying to be mean in any way but I find it very odd that in daylight a random stranger stabs a man and doesn't kill the wife. Very rarely do people that kill, kill strangers. It just doesn't make any sense. I think there is more to this story. Maybe there really was a man, but random acts like this don't happen very often. Usually the victim and the assailant know eachother.
I live in LO and know this area. Zero crime / dodgy people that look like this anywhere. There was no way this was random. There must be some connections between these two. Why are the police not giving out more details. There is something going on here...
First of all: Lake Oswego has its own police department, and is part of Clackamas County rather than Portland. It would make sense that in a low-crime area, the residents are nervous about this happening - and that they would put their resources into finding the man who did this.
Â
And second: I find it incredibly sad and insensitive that there is speculation that the wife had anything to do with this. They were walking their dogs, which they did every morning. This poor woman has lost her husband - how very sad for her! I hope none of you ever has to deal with this kind of crime in your family . . . and that, if you do, you don't have to deal with twittering suspicion on top of your loss.
I truly mean no disrepect in asking this....but with police making a huge presence there, detectives asking all the questions and checking things out....with all the other homicides in other areas of Portland, does it seem that LO is getting a little "extra" attention? I mean, we hear about things happening all over, but the media doesn't mention the work that detectives and LE put forth. What makes LO special? Money? Prestige? Is it that this case seems a little "odd"? I mean really...the artist's sketch of this killer seems more like a sketch of one of Osama's men. How middle-eastern can you get?? I don't know....still a sad thing to happen to an apparently nice man.Â
 @Wyatt Alger  omgwtflol?!  :-P
Did anyone check local crucifixions for this guy?
Please everyone be respectful. I knew Fritz and he was a good man.The thought of how he was viciously attacked and killed, has kept me from sleeping. Everyone needs to live life to the most and make sure you tell your loved ones everyday how much you care for them.
Lots of unanswered questions....why would the "killer" leave a witness, the wife, and why would he display several "edge weapons"? Odd to say the least.Â
@Kachina Exactly what I was thinking. Makes no sense at all. No robbery no nothing just runs up and stabs him to death in broad daylight in front of his eye witness wife and takes off on foot? Doesn't make sense and f it doesn't make sense, it's because it's not true
Look at the sketch and then look at a photo of Hayes himself, see the resemblance? Odd or just coincidence?
@Agent Sydney Bristow Draw some glasses on the suspect and see what you think. Its pretty close.
The wifey....SNAPPED!
Is there any evidence at all that this killer exists? I haven't followed the story closely and apologize if I'm missing something, but is the wife the only witness?
@Lips Its very sketchy. No witnesses. Only the wife's description. Its so off the wall to be unbelievable.Â
@KKStJohn Surely the wife must be believable or they wouldn't have launched this manhunt, and all of LO wouldn't be freaking out. Right? Hmmm... Stranger than fiction. Sad for Mr. Hayes. RIP.
@Lips @KKStJohn  It is LO, not NE Portland. So it couldnt be the wife!! OMG, crime in LO... the nerve.
I wouldn't be on edge because its very unlikely he will go back to the same town ever again...
@portlandborn83 I wouldn't be on edge because I doubt this mysterious killer even exists.Â
