PORTLAND, Ore. – Friends and fans of a famously obese dog celebrated two victories Saturday.
Obie the obese dachshund has lost 30 pounds from his once 70-pound frame.
His foster mother, Nora Vanatta, also won her months-long custody battle to keep him while she helps him lose weight. The Oregon Dachshund Rescue claimed Vanatta was exploiting the dog and not giving him proper medical care.
Saturday, Vanatta thanked Obie’s supporters at a party at Lucky Lab Brewpub in Southeast Portland.
“The local supporters got a chance to meet him and see how great he is with people and other dogs. He loves the attention and he’s a very happy, social guy,” Vanatta said.
“There’s just something about him that just won my heart,” said Peggy Scearce. “Nora is such a kind, compassionate person and you don’t see that much in this day and age.”
