PORTLAND, Ore. – A Portland woman was rescued after her jet ski was stuck on a sandbar Saturday night and she swam across the Columbia River to shore, a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.

Rescue crews began to look for Caitrin Shough after her husband, Cameron Shough, told boaters anchored near Rooster Rock State Park that he didn’t know where she was and he was going to look for her.

Rescuers found Cameron Shough at 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

A Coast Guard helicopter found Caitrin Shough’s jet ski beached on Reed Island just before 1 a.m.

Shough was found on Interstate 84 after she swam across the south channel of the Columbia River from Reed Island to the Oregon shore, according to Multnomah County Lt. Mark Matsushima.

She was suffering from hypothermia and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
