Climber rescued off Mount Hood after falling

MOUNT HOOD, Ore. – A man who fell into a crater in the Hogsback area of Mount Hood Tuesday was rescued and taken to the hospital, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

An Oregon Air National Guard Blackhawk helicopter plucked the man from where he fell and took him to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.

When rescue crews found the man, he was injured but was conscious and breathing. The extent of his injuries has not been released.

The climber had his cellphone and was in contact with deputies during the rescue, the sheriff's office said.

Also aiding in the rescue were crews from Clackamas County Search and Rescue and Mountain Wave Rescue.

Someone who was climbing with the man called 911 at about 2:30 p.m., according to county dispatchers.
