Suspicious device attached to flag pole at closed high school

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Police officers blocked roads near Washington High School in Southeast Portland Monday morning after officers discovered a suspicious device taped to a flag pole.

The device turned out to be a hoax, police said.

Police located the device just after 4:30 a.m. Monday and decided to call for the bomb squad to deal with the device, which they did not describe in detail.

Police closed SE Stark Street between 12th and 14th Avenue while police worked at the scene.

The school was closed in 1981. Officials with Portland Public School also responded to the scene Monday morning.
