Woman killed, man injured in Vancouver stabbing

VANCOUVER, Wash. – A woman was stabbed to death during a fight at a Vancouver home early Saturday morning, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives arrested Neal C. Kelly, 26, of Woodland, Wash. on charges of murder, attempted murder and assault.

Jennie Brill, 42, of Vancouver, died at the scene.

Sterling Shaver, 34, of Woodland was also stabbed during the fight. Medics took him to a hospital with serious injuries. His condition is unknown.

Kelly was taken to the Clark County Jail. The sheriff's office has not released a motive for the stabbings.

Sgt. Duncan Hoss said deputies responded to a report of a fight at the home near Northeast 89th Avenue and 80th Street just after 4 a.m. A man later identified as Kelly was outside the home when deputies arrived and ran back inside. Deputies followed and a “prolonged fight ensued,” Hoss said in a news release.

One deputy was injured during the fight. He was treated and released from a hospital.
